Amalaki is the Sanskrit name of Phyllanthus emblica, a plant native to India and widely used in the Ayurvedic tradition.
Its fruit is considered the best of all acidic fruits and the most suitable for maintaining a state of optimal well-being and health.
It has antioxidant properties and in fact Amalaki is considered a powerful rejuvenating herb. It is the basic ingredient of all Ayurvedic products for rejuvenating treatments (rasayana in Sanskrit).
It has the highest concentration of vitamin C present in nature: approximately 20 times the ascorbic acid content of a common orange, equal to almost a tenth of its weight.
The natural vitamin C of Amalaki is easily absorbable compared to synthetic vitamin C, it has a stability over time and heat, due to the presence of some tannins that bind to it, inhibiting its dissipation.
It promotes the longevity and sustenance of all body tissues.
Many studies show that the fruit is very effective in reducing the risk of many chronic disorders, acting as a radical scavenger.
Amalaki can be eaten as a fruit, but can be difficult to find fresh as it is usually grown in Southeast Asia.
In fact, it can usually be taken in the form of a supplement.
Taken as a supplement, however, we remember that it does not replace a healthy and balanced diet and should only be taken after consulting a doctor.
