Ingredients : Alcohol, Water, extracts of: BEARBERRY (Arctostaphylos uva ursi L.) leaves, ECHINACEA (Echinacea purpurea L.) flowering plant, YAILLEA (Achillea millefolium L.) flowering tops, AROMATIC SUMAC (Rhus aromatica Aiton) root bark , OATS (Avena sativa L.) top, MELISSA (Melissa officinalis L.) aerial part, ASpen (Populus tremuloides L.) leaves.

Characteristics :

Bearberry, also known as Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, is a plant used for centuries for its properties, particularly effective as a diuretic and disinfectant of the urinary tract. This natural remedy is especially appreciated for the treatment of inflammation and urinary infections thanks to its antiseptic action, which can relieve both the continuous urge to urinate and the associated pain.

The secret to the effectiveness of bearberry lies in its chemical composition. Among the most important components are hydroquinone glycosides, in particular arbutin. When we consume arbutin, our body metabolizes it and releases hydroquinone in the urine, a compound that has been shown to have strong antibacterial activity. This means that bearberry not only helps fight bacteria in the urinary tract, but does so directly where it is needed most.

In addition to arbutin, bearberry also contains hydrolyzable tannins, which have astringent properties useful for reducing inflammation, and iridoid glycosides such as monotropein, which further contribute anti-inflammatory effects. The flavonoids present, such as myricetin, are powerful antioxidants that support urinary tract health. Finally, terpenoids, such as alpha- and beta-amyrin, uveol, and ursolic acid, add additional benefits thanks to their anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

Bearberry is particularly indicated for treating non-acute urinary infections. Thanks to its antiseptic action, it manages to calm the continuous urge to urinate and pain, significantly improving the patient's comfort. However, it is important to note that it is not recommended for acute or chronic cystitis, as more specific or powerful treatments may be needed in these cases.

There are some precautions to keep in mind when using bearberry. For example, it is contraindicated during pregnancy due to its possible vasoconstrictor action, which could negatively affect circulation. Even during breastfeeding and in pediatrics it is best to avoid it to prevent any unwanted effects on newborns and children. Additionally, those with sensitive stomachs should use caution, as the tannins present can irritate the gastrointestinal tract.

A curious side effect of taking bearberry is the possible brown-green coloring of the urine, due to the presence of hydroquinone. This is a harmless phenomenon but can surprise those who are not aware of it.

To enhance its effects, bearberry can be combined with preparations such as Coli-Herb® (S18 Chamomile c.), which, thanks to its antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties, makes the treatment of urinary inflammation even more effective.

In summary, bearberry is a precious natural remedy for those suffering from urinary infections, with a powerful antiseptic action that can relieve annoying symptoms and improve the quality of life. However, as with all remedies, it is essential to use it with awareness and follow the appropriate instructions to ensure its effectiveness and safety.
