Shatavari [Asparagus racemosus (Willd.) Oberm.] is a plant with rasayana (rejuvenating) properties. From its root we obtain principles that stimulate energy and vigor to maintain the body with a young and vital appearance and an overall state of psycho-physical health.
As a tonic Shatavari is indicated for both men and women without age limitation. Although it is indicated for use as a tonic for physical and mental tiredness, it is of some interest to know how this plant has been traditionally used in India for over a thousand years.
Shatavari in Sanskrit means "she who can marry 100 times" to underline its powerful action on fertility. Vedic culture passes down the fame of Shatavari as that of a slow-acting plant, therefore it is recommended to take it for a prolonged period in order to appreciate its effectiveness.
